The Experience.

What’s a headshot with me like?

I’m an an actor myself, and I love everything about the theatre, film and tv. I’ve been on the other side of the camera, most of my life, and I know all too well the anxiety of getting new headshots done.

Over the years I’ve been interested in creating an experience during a headshot session that is more akin to a great workshop of an exciting new play. I think actors look their best when they are in action. We dress ourselves up to show ourselves, and I think, all too often, are shy to just “be ourselves” in front of a camera. A great headshot, like acting, requires relaxation and a keen connection between you and the audience, you and your scene partner, you and the camera.

Before each shoot, I will send you a preparation link to get your mind working on how you’d like to be shot – and how I can best shoot you. I treat each session as a collaboration, like an intimate portrait session.

I started out as a natural light photographer, shooting actors in natural settings. I love the cinematic feel of an outdoor headshot session, and the freedom a lot of space gives us. As a photographer, I love to hunt for that right light/look for each actor.

It used to be that I loved shooting outdoors over studio headshots. And now it’s completely the reverse! I love the freedom of a studio shoot. It’s like a black box theatre – we can create antyhing we like in there. Plus, there’s tea. And coffee. And no rain. Or wind.

I have a range of styles we can shoot in. One that creates the look of an outdoor headshot with lots of background blur (called Bokeh), as well as simple colour backdrops, textured backdrops etc.
